Overview
SAP Business One is an ERP application designed specifically for small and mid-sized businesses, marketed by SAP SE. It provides an integrated system covering financials, sales, purchasing, inventory, production, and CRM — all in a single platform. It is commonly used by companies in manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail, and professional services that need more capability than basic accounting software but do not require the scale of a full SAP S/4HANA deployment.
For logistics and supply chain teams, the most relevant modules are purchasing, inventory, and sales. The purchasing module supports the complete order-to-pay cycle, including purchase requests, purchase orders, goods receipts, and accounts payable invoicing. Inventory management provides real-time stock visibility across multiple warehouses, with support for serial and batch tracking, bin locations, inventory transfers, and multiple costing methods including FIFO and moving average. The sales module handles quotes, sales orders, deliveries, and invoicing. SAP Business One also includes Material Requirements Planning (MRP) for forecasting inventory needs and generating purchase order recommendations.
Logistics teams typically use SAP Business One as a source of sales orders, purchase orders, goods receipts, delivery documents, and inventory data. The system tracks inbound and outbound shipments and inventory movements in real time, making it a common operational backbone for smaller companies managing multi-warehouse distribution.
